Business Developer – Biomass Supply Chain,  The Netherlands

Location: The Netherlands /  home office

Carbo Culture is a carbon removal technology developer on a mission to help mitigate climate change by permanently removing CO2. The company has developed a patented process, Carbolysis that sequesters CO2 by converting waste biomass into stable, high-permanence biochar and heat, while avoiding toxic by-products.
They are headquartered in Helsinki with operations in Europe, the UK and the US. Their team is largely remote, and live they meet for team or company wide summits.
To strengthen their Business Development Team in The Netherlands and to lead their Project Development activities we search for an ambitious Business Developer Biomass Supply Chain.

Your role
You are a natural connector who can build relationships with all stakeholders, from entrepreneurs and provinces and ensure that projects are managed in a coherent way. You will play a crucial role in driving the growth and success of Carbo Culture 's operations in the Netherlands and Belgium. You will be responsible for identifying, developing, and managing strategic partnerships within the biomass supply chain, with a particular focus on bio waste from greenhouses and agricultural sources. Your primary objective is to build a robust network of suppliers and processing industry,  and secure a consistent supply and processing of high-quality biomass.
You understand the plant based biowaste management and horticulture market well. You thrive in an area with little direction or oversight. You can be relied on as a Carbo Culture representative in international, often complex negotiations and projects. You can effectively communicate and manage mutually beneficial partnership models.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Development: Identify, evaluate, and establish partnerships with potential biomass suppliers, including greenhouse operators, agricultural producers, and biowaste management companies;
  • Supply Chain Optimization: Develop and implement strategies to optimize the biomass supply chain, ensuring efficient collection, transportation, and delivery of raw materials to their production facilities, and also potentially designing solutions for biochar end of life circularity;
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges within the biomass industry in the Netherlands;
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about relevant regulations and ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards;
  • Business Development: Negotiate contracts, manage supplier relationships, and develop pricing strategies to secure favorable terms and conditions;
  • Project Management: Oversee the implementation of biomass supply chain projects, including facility development, logistics planning, and quality control;
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., production, engineering, commercial) to ensure seamless integration of biomass supply chain activities.

Ideal Candidate

Your experience

  • Proven experience and strong understanding of the biomass industry, including market dynamics, regulations, and key players;
  • Strong networks in relevant industries: professional horticulture, biomass and bio waste management; Knowledge of Dutch permitting and subsidy regulations;
  • Project development experience in a relevant industry in multimillion scale, e.g. with the bioprocess industry or in energy / other infrastructure projects;
  • Familiarity with pellet production processes and technologies (nice to have);
  • Experience working in a startup-like, fast-moving organization;
  • Experience in a leadership / critical position;
  • You are deeply passionate about climate tech and about working for a live-able planet in 2050;
  • Reside in close to Westland or in the southern Netherlands.

  • Excellent communication and networking skills; proficiency in Dutch and English;
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders;
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with a passion for sustainability;
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen;
  • You are comfortable creating new concepts and with creative problem solving, not working from a pre-existing project playbook;
  • Always on the hunt for a better deal, a new way of doing things, improving the current;
  • Ability to act without direction and bring deals forth;
  • You’re a driven self-starter, builder, can think on your feet and you are eager to learn;
  • If work needs to be done, you’ll do it even if it’s not your responsibility.
