Cultivation Manager at Maridadi Flowers (Part-time)

Location: Naivasha, Kenya

Maridadi Flowers Limited is a leading flower farm in Kenya, located in beautiful Naivasha. Founded in 2003 and located at an altitude of 1950 meters above sea level, their nursery covers almost 50 hectares of roses. With a dedicated team of 750 employees, they export their premium T-hybrid roses to their parent company, Kneppers Rozen BV, in the Netherlands. Job description

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the high quality and productivity of the rose crops. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Crop maintenance and production: Assess and provide advice on all aspects of crop maintenance, crop production and growth to achieve optimal results;
  • Improvement of Cultivation Techniques: Develop and implement innovative planting, cultivation and harvesting techniques to improve crop yields and solve problems effectively;
  • Communication and Reporting: Communicate effectively with management and colleagues through briefings, technical and operational reports, and presentations to ensure that all stakeholders are well informed;
  • Agricultural Strategies: Researching, developing, and promoting agricultural strategies to counteract the effects of changes in soil, climate, weather, and pest damage;
  • Sample analysis: Collecting and testing soil and crop samples to detect and correct nutrient deficiencies or other changes;
  • Fertilization and Irrigation: Collaborate with management to develop and implement effective fertilization and irrigation schedules and programs
  • Progress Reports: Collect, analyse, and interpret progress reports on crop growth, production, and quality to ensure continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Practical Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience in the cultivation of crops, preferably roses;
  • Crop management: Extensive experience in crop management and an in-depth knowledge of soil and crop cultivation principles;
  • Consulting skills: Ability to provide expert advice on nutrition programs and crop management practices;
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical skills to identify problems and develop innovative solutions;
  • Research skills: Experience conducting agricultural research and implementing findings to improve production;

  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English, with the ability to convey complex information clearly;
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders;
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyse data and interpret trends to make informed decisions;
  • Innovation: Creative thinking to develop and apply new cultivation methods and techniques.
